Saw this video in my recommendations yesterday, watched the previous video first and just finished this one today. I cant wait for part 3! And while MGR Revengence isnt made by Kojima, i do hope you cover it as well for a wee follow up on Raiden later. (I dont even know if those events are canon)

Why do you talk so slow? I have to watch the video at 1.75 to 2x speed to enjoy it. It is really stressful to know what you are going to say while you painfully slow finish the word. Or do you record your video normally and slow them down to increase the length of the video, fully expecting your viewers to speed them up to get the sweet sweet watch time?

Great video, but could not help but notice the double brain fart at the section about the thermal memory alloy key. You can change it's shape by warming *and* heating it, then *otacon* shoots it out of your hand? Crazy times we live in!

Surgeon Simulator 2 reminds me more of Hello Neighbor than the first game. It seems decent enough, but I don’t think it’s what people were looking for from the series.

You should make a whole video just shitting on payday 3. It's baffling how they still can't make a server browser months after launch. It shows so much incompetence from the devs and the company that the coop game has really shit matchmaking and online features. Like how the fuck is it still impossible to talk to console players that shit should've been added day 1.

Late to the party, I know, but as someone who's never played the original game, the thing that stands out most about this video to me compared to other videos I've watched on it is how you opine that the alchemy system seemed tacked on, while in a lot of other videos I've watched I've seen the claim that the alchemy and potion system was absolutely essential in the first game compared to in later series entries. Just goes to show you how many different ways people can interact with game systems!

I got Condemned 2 Bloodshot and Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 both in great condition from local Gamestop. Sad thing is my slim PS3 has trouble reading disc (faulty system). I had to do the 45 degree tilt. Condemned 2 worked. So I beat it. not so much luck for MGS4 tho. It just won't work. Something to do with disc being older.

This needs more analysis and less chronological recounting what happens in the game. Nah I think you did a nice job. You're pretty good!

I can only answer for how I and my friends reacted at seeing Pliskin back when the game came out. But we all knew right away it was Snake. The question was not ”is that Snake?”, but rather ”why is Snake lying?”.

i genuinely love this game’s story, it’s probably my favourite in the series still. it’s so direct, humble and has a large central focus on how the characters interact with the events of the story (which is something i missed in the sort of more scattershot nature of infinite wealth’s story)

found this on twitter looking up MGS2, I love MGS2 so much but I really liked listening to the part about Ghost Babel. EDIT: So glad this is more than a "hey guys look at these wacky characters Kojima cut from MGS2!" like a lot of people do.

I think the reason Raiden is no longer looked at as negatively is less that people actually came around to understand the game and his story/purpose (which of course people did, due to great works like yours!), but also that he got a cool sword and went from "I don't know what to believe in" to "I will cut your memes in half, mister cyborg". Probably easier to grasp than having to actually follow the codec calls for most people.

Just to point at a little detail that it seems like you didn't see, there's one extra thing to really put an emphasis on the fact that Raiden is under the influence of whoever talks to him: his codec's volume indicator is shaped like a gun pointed towards his head, unlike Snake's during the tanker part of the game.

Fun story on my most recent playthrough of MGS2, which was this year after not playing for 3 years and it being over a decade since beating it, I fought the final boss on the day that it happens to be in the game. When he said the date I almost lost my poop. 57:57

I played this when it first came out and its my favorite in the series. I can promise you that when i met Pliskin i knew it was Snake right away and wondered why he wasn't working with Campbell. I also suspected that at some point control would go back to snake and that control would swap between snake and raiden each chapter but i was very wrong about that.

I played the MGS series for the first time a few years ago, I played all 5 back to back immediately one after the other. I remember a very polarizing opinion of MGS 2, some saying it's the worst game ever made, some saying it's their personal favorite in the franchise. I gotta say, this is genuinely one of the greatest games I've ever played in my life.

I first played MGS and beat it when I was about only 8 years old. It has had such a lasting effect on me even as a kid because it was probably the first video game to ever make me feel such raw emotion response wise.

Very solid analysis (no pun intended). One little detail I think you glossed over was how for the first time in the series the game provided a way of beating the entire game non-lethally. Every time you deal with an enemy in a lethal manner it's always a player decision, conscious or not. MGS3 makes it more obvious by confronting the player with their choices during the boss battle with the Sorrow, but the idea started here.

We Metal Gear fans often come across as potentious. But how can we not, if the game that is now 20 years old exactly predicted the world we live in now...

I had no idea that “substance” was inspired by the Joy Division album or that Kojima was a fan. That’s an awesome little tidbit.
